Gunter & Co's top picks for interior design shopping in London - Fitzrovia & Mayfair

Part Two: Fitzrovia & Mayfair

We wanted to highlight some of our favourite luxury interior design showrooms to visit in London. From many years of experience, we know that it is always worth trying to see things in real life where possible. Check out the texture of a tile, assess and touch the curve on a basin, try out the comfort level of a sofa. And yes! We know there are too many amazing showrooms to visit in one day, so we’ve broken it down into separate areas. This is usually how we plan our own showroom trips to ensure they’re as efficient and streamlined as possible (and that there’s time to schedule a refreshment stop or two!)

Naturally, with any of our suggestions, it’s a good idea to call or email ahead of your planned visit to check opening times and availability and many places may be by appointment only.

Interior design in Fitzrovia & Mayfair

Continuing on our series, we’re heading to Fitzrovia & Mayfair, so get those walking shoes on and your notebook ready and prepare to be inspired!

Choosing an item of upholstery is a big decision. It’s not just about the financial commitment, it’s deciding on the colour and texture of the fabric, leather or suede, and the proportion and comfort of the piece too. We always make a point of visiting several showrooms and make sure we have a ‘sit down’ on any new pieces we particularly like, before suggesting or recommending to our clients and including them in a mood board. This particular area is great for contemporary upholstery, and is often on our tour list!

For a great big hit of contemporary Italian influence, visit the luxury interior design showroom of Minotti London, where you will find outdoor ideas as well as indoor collections.

Ligne Roset Westend in Mortimer Street is definitely a desirable destination, it’s always a complete joy to see (and touch) those amazingly tactile, squishy and instantly recognisable Togo chairs, as well as newer designs, of course.

Founder Holly Hunt has showrooms across the US, including New York, Chicago and Denver – as well as London. Visit Holly Hunt London for furniture and accessories, lighting and fabrics, including the Great Plains collections.

If you want to see a perfectly contemporary sofa, try the Arpege (needs an accent) modular system at Liaigre, as well as beautiful and stylish smaller accessories such as trays and throws.

And of course, it’s impossible to mention this area without including Ralph Lauren, a destination for luxury interior design in London, with irresistible collections of bed linen, glassware and towels.

Phew! If all that walking and interior inspiration means you need a sit-down and a reviving lunch to let your thoughts settle, we recommend Mortimer House, naturally enough, in Mortimer Street.
