Gunter & Co's top picks for interior design shopping in London - Fulham Road

Part Four: Fulham Road

We know there’s nothing quite like shopping for luxury interior design homeware in person. To check out the texture of a tile, assess and touch the curve on a basin, try out the comfort level of a sofa. It’s so important to get a good feel for the pieces which will make your home. So, we’ve highlighted some of our favourite luxury interior design showrooms to visit in London. We know there are too many amazing showrooms to visit in one day, so we’ve broken it down into separate areas. This is usually how we plan our own showroom trips to ensure they’re as efficient and streamlined as possible (and that there’s time to schedule a refreshment stop or two!)

Naturally, with any of our suggestions, it’s a good idea to call or email ahead of your planned visit to check opening times and availability and many places may be by appointment only.

Interior design on Fulham Road

Continuing on our series, we’re heading to Fulham Road, so get those walking shoes on and your notebook ready and prepare to be inspired!

Fulham Road is a pivotal destination for anyone with an interest in interiors and design, and it’s a joy to see lots of inspiring, beautifully staged and decorated shops and showrooms. It’s not going to be a quick visit though! Make sure you give yourself a good few hours to wander and browse!

Heading over to Fulham Road, we know that a look at the classic and traditional handmade designs at Kingcome Sofas will answer the need for a timeless, sophisticated look for a country home or town apartment.

We firmly believe that flooring must definitely viewed in-situ, in order to see the tones, variations and subtlety of material – whether it’s stone, porcelain, ceramic or a fabricated material. You’ll see endless beautiful possibilities at Mandarin Stone

Indulge a liking for tiles with a visit to Parkside, to see a range that encompasses terrazzo and textiles, with an abundance of colourful, textural possibilities – particularly relevant with regard to interior architecture.

We’re big fans of Castrads who make exquisite custom radiators. We often opt for the Grace model as it comes in all the Farrow & Ball colours.

For fine furniture that will be treasured for generations to come, look at the collections at Julian Chichester. The emphasis on craftsmanship and traditional qualities is held throughout varied collections.

Fabric, wallpaper and porcelain at de Gournay are highly individual, detailed and desirable, adding a luxurious and exclusive air to a scheme.

Well, we’re all guilty of knowing the Farrow & Ball colour chart practically off by heart, but however many paint cards collected, there’s definitely mileage in visiting the showroom itself to garner new inspiration, see the colours in use and naturally, to feel the wonderful textures of the papers.

Little things often make the biggest difference to a room, an overall scheme or a single piece of furniture. Beardmore supplies ironmongery, door furniture, cabinet knobs and handles and every kind of hook, lever, handle or trim you could wish for.

And after all that running around, you’ll probably be in need of lunch or at least a pastry and a coffee! One of our favourite stops is the classic Gail’s at 341 Fulham Road.
