Gunter & Co’s guide to food and drink in The Cotswolds

Out & About in The Cotswolds: Part Two

One of our first and still one of our most popular projects is our Cotswold Country House. Over the years we are often asked what our favourite project is and this one always comes to mind – it’s one of the first projects where the client fully entrusted us with the creative direction and we can’t help but think that it paid off in spades.

Set in the heart of an idyllic Cotswolds village we are often invited to stay in this stunning home so we’re used to nipping out and about through the country lanes! We’ve already covered our favourite interiors shops, studios, homeware stores and antique shops in part one, so now it’s time to dive into our favourite places to stop for refreshments from restaurants, to cafes and farm shops.

The Cotswolds

It’s always a good idea to schedule in some refreshment stops on your travels around! Here are some of our favourites, in no particular order - as part of the joy of The Cotswolds is just getting out there for a good old look around!

The Wild Rabbit, Kingham, has a lovely terrace, and is part of the Daylesford estate, and provides both food and rooms. The décor is understated modern country-style, with simplicity and comfort top of the list. Oh, and the cocktails are delightful!

Try Daylesford Farm for the farm shop, bakery, creamery, as well as The Trough Cafe, The Old Spot Restaurant and The Leg Bar

Head towards Broadway for a wander around one of the prettiest villages in The Cotswolds.  You’ll find the Morris & Brown café at Broadway Tower.

Lords of the Manor, near Bourton on the Water, has two options, The Atrium, and The Dining Room. Booking is essential, and rooms are available too. Definitely on the wish-list!

The Wheatsheaf Inn, Northleach, has bespoke bedrooms, a beer garden and a stunning restaurant. Open for breakfast, lunch and evenings.

If you’re feeling a little bit adventurous, head off for a drive around the villages – you’ll see some beautiful scenery and will pass dozens of cafes, lunch and dinner spots, so just stop when the fancy takes you. Add these names to your route list:

Upton upon Severn, where you will also find Upton Wold private garden – which is open Weds-Fri.

Also try Little Barrington, Great Barrington, Great Rissington and Little Rissington. Upper Slaughter and Lower Slaughter. Guiting Power has a pretty church, and of course, Temple Guiting Manor  with The Pantry Shop and Café.

Do let us know about any hidden gems you find, we’re always on the lookout for new coffee and cake venues or destinations for dinner!
